OUR CURRICULUM
Doha International Kindergarten follows the Early Years Foundation Stage programme.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a curriculum for children aged three to five years old. This is broken down into three prime aspects and four specific areas of learning.
Prime areas are fundamental, work together, and move through to support development in all other areas.
Specific areas include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society.
PRIME AREAS OF LEARNING
- To provide a secure, loving and caring environment that promotes learning through play as well as other stimulating educational activities.
- To provide a broadly-based curriculum that is designed to motivate, challenge, encourage and inspire children and enable them to achieve their potential and make the most of their time at Doha International Kindergarten and beyond.
- To work towards achieving the required outcomes of the Early Learning Goals for the Foundation Stage, applicable to 3, 4 and 5 year old.
- To build children’s self-esteem as independent learners.
- To enable students to have an insight into the Islamic religion and culture.
- To enhance the relationship between students, staff, parents and the wider community.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF LEARNING
- Literacy.

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE
This area involves giving children opportunities to speak and listen in a range of situations, also to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
This area involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive, and to develop their coordination, control and movement. Children are also helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food.
PERSONAL SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This area involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.
LITERACY
This area involves encouraging children to read and write, both through listening to others reading, and being encouraged to begin to read and write themselves. Children must be given access to a wider range of reading materials – books, poems, and other written materials to ignite their interest.
MATHEMATICS
This area involves providing children with opportunities to practise and improve their skills in counting numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems and to describe shapes and measures.
UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD
This area involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and environment.
EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN
This area involves supporting children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role play, and design and technology.
